Qualification programme of the RTG: September – November 2024

Several events in the framework of the qualification programme of the RTG took place in autumn 2024, all of which were well attended.

On the 26th and 27th of September, Prof. Timo von Oertzen from the Thomas Bayes Institute offered a workshop on “Bayesian statistics” to our group. This was a very interactive event, which introduced Bayesian statistics as a new way of thinking, going over play examples as well as looking at some real data. The workshop offered a perfect starting point for the participants’ journey into modern data analysis.

This workshop was followed by a Python course with Dr. Fabrizio Damicelli on the 17th and 18th of October. In this practical introductory course, Dr. Damicelli covered the basics of the Python language as a basis for scientific computing and data analysis tasks. The course was able to meet the needs of both beginner-level students and intermediate-level students looking to take their skills to the next level.

On the 7th and 8th of November, a course on Inkscape with communication designer and lecturer Monika Gause took place, introducing the participants to the basic principles of vector graphics using the open source software Inkscape. In interactive sessions, the participants were able to practice using the tools for drawing, editing and typesetting, as well acquiring insights into dealing with complex info graphics with advanced features, which they can then make use of for their research projects.
